A creative approach to pattern cutting is an important skill in fashion design. A good pattern cutter needs to be able to translate 2D into 3D and understand how a pattern can work on the body. I was tasked with recreating an existing designer garment; creating the pattern from scratch both with flat pattern and stand work. I used a technique called 'Moulage', which is to work directly on the stand, draping the fabric onto the body or stand to create the pattern. You discover the way the fabric works on the form and how to fully develop your creative techniques. Through research and experimentation on the stand, the understanding of how creatively diferent fabrics can be manipulated will be expanded.
